ZooMontana is a 70-acre (280,000 m2) wildlife park located in
Billings, Montana, U.S. and is Montana's only zoo and botanical park.
First planned in the early 1980s, ZooMontana hosts wildlife native to
the Rockies and exotic animals from around the world.
ZooMontana is an Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited
wildlife park & zoo.
ZooMontana is divided in 'habitats.'
Asia Habitat The Asia Habitat starts by the wolf habitat and is made
of a paved path that goes through a cottonwood forest, the path splits
at one point and one half is a nature trail.
ZooMontana is a new regional zoological/botanical garden, the only one
of its kind in the Northern Rockies. A habitat, more than a zoo. From
ZooMontana's conception it was decided that this zoo should be more
than a recreational collection of animals and plants.
ZooMontana points of interest:
1. Visitors can admire animals in natural settings. Wildlife is kept
from visitors by cleverly arranged ravines, cliffs and other natural
barriers.

ZooMontana is the only zoo to be honored by a grant from the Humane
Society of the United States (HSUS). This reflects ZooMontana's level
of concern for wildlife.

Margie & I visited ZooMontana for our second time on 4/3/06. This
under-rated treasure is less than 2 hours from Cody and only costs $6
for admission. The zoo is located just off the Shiloh Road exit off
I-90 as you come toward Billings, Montana.

The vision of ZooMontana is to become one of the worlds outstanding
zoological and botanical institutions specializing in northern
latitude or temperate species and provide our community and region
with environmentally focused cultural, educational and recreational
experiences.
ZooMontana is located on a 70-acre site on Shiloh Road, at the west
end of Billings, Montana. The immediate region served by ZooMontana
consists of Montana, east of the continental divide, and northern
Wyoming.
ZooMontana is a regional zoological/botanical garden, which is the
only one of its kind in the Northern Rockies. The concept of
ZooMontana was born in 1981 and the Zoo was incorporated as a private,
non-profit organization in 1982.
ZooMontana has unexpectedly lost one of its beloved tigers.
Luna, a Siberian tiger, died at 5 a.m. Sunday, according to officials.
Zookeepers said they noticed her loss of appetite and activity on
Saturday afternoon.
Luna had made ZooMontana her home since 2005 when she was moved here
from a Minnesota zoo. Zoo officials have taken Prince, their other
tiger, off exhibit while they assess the enclosure and determine why
Luna died.

ZooMontana received the male big horn sheep in late May after a
rancher outside of the Livingston area found his mother had apparently
fallen off a cliff on his property.
A standard trip through ZooMontana at the I-90 443 Zoo Drive Exit is a
walk through the zoo habitat area with a map in hand. Interpretive
plaques and panels give information about the animals.

Bruno came to ZooMontana from the Knoxville Zoo in Tennessee. Before
that, he belonged to an animal trainer in South Carolina and then an
exotic animal park in Tennessee before wildlife officials confiscated
him.

BILLINGS - ZooMontana officials are busy preparing for the newest
member of their family.
Bruno, a 512-pound bear, is scheduled to arrive in May. He's currently
at a zoo in Knoxville, Tennessee, where zookeepers say he is active
and likes people.

are surviving and thriving.
Since ZooMontana doesn't receive state or federal funds, all of the
money raised at Zoofari helps keep the zoo operating all year.
