Zagreb Zoo (Croatian: Zoološki vrt grada Zagreba) is one of three zoo
parks in Croatia.
It has 275 animal species represented by 2,225 animals and located
within the Maksimir Park.
Zoo opened its doors on June 27, 1925.
Last time I visited Zagreb Zoo was over 25 years ago (one of my first
contacts with "real" animals).

ZAGREB, CROATIA – Zagreb ZOO celebrated its 84 th birthday this
weekend. The programme was educational and entertaining, however, two
major events marked it: the opening of the “Living Together”
exhibition and a picnic with teddy bears.
Apart from Zagreb ZOO, the picnic was also organised in hundreds of
ZOOs throughout Europe with the goal of breaking the Guinness record.
Teddy bears were counted on the picnic, not persons, while a person
was free to bring up to 20 teddy bears.
The Zagreb zoo is in the southern part of the spacious Maksimir park,
about 3 km east of downtown. To get out there, take tram 11 or 13 from
Trg Josip Jelacica, or 4 from the railway station.

long avenue leads to the central area of the park and a hillock where
one finds a belvedere built in 1843.

Maksimir park about 10min from the city center. Whole zoo is
surrounded with trees and lots of grass, lakes, it is perfect for a
walk with your beloved ones, or to take children to a excursion.
Zagreb zoo animals that (according to the testimony of the zoo staff)
was repeatedly occuring in the past. In the present time, we do not
have any reason to believe that the zoo animals are mistreated, even
if their imprisonment alone is a form of the given.
