The Tautphaus Park Zoo is ready for this Memorial Day weekend. It's
the kick-off to a summer of "unbearable" fun. Not only are the Asian
sloth bears a week away from their debut, a new zoo friend was
introduced Thursday.
Bill Gersonde says the Tautphaus Park Zoo has a
three fold mission to educate, promote conservation as well as just
help everyone have a good time.

The Tautphaus Park Zoo is widely considered an impressive zoo for a
small city like Idaho Falls, but as part of its "master plan" over the
coming years, the zoo is being consulted on how to generate more
money.
Tautphaus Park Zoo, on the other hand, relies on at least 60
percent of its operating revenue from city funding.
The consultant says our zoo could be more self-sufficient by selling
food and concessions, and more gifts.
Tautphaus Park Zoo is accredited by the
American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) and participates in the
captive breeding management of 8 endangered species through the
Species Survival Plan (SSP).
Two sloth bears have joined Tautphaus Park Zoo’s collection of more
than 350 animals.
The active bears, native to India and Sri Lanka, are as tall as an
adult when they stand and are covered in long, black fur.
As a volunteer or docent at the Tautphaus Park Zoo you can get up
close and personal with all of the animals.

The Tautphaus Park Zoo showed off its latest arrivals
for our Tautphaus Park Zoo to have these 3 successful births this
year, one birth with 3 cubs, we’re thrilled that we could be part of
the national program in breeding these species.”
The baby Servals will have their first public appearance this
Saturday.
Tautphaus Park Zoo is open from April - November only.
The brothers are the first bears in Tautphaus Park Zoo in nearly 20
years. They were relocated from Little Rock, Arkansas.
The bears are waiting to move into their exhibit in the coming months,
but the zoo needs your help.
