Taronga Zoo is the city zoo of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Officially opened on October 7, 1916, it is located on the shores of
Sydney Harbour in the suburb of Mosman.
Divided into eight zoogeographic regions, Taronga Zoo is home to over
2,600 animals on 21 hectares, making it one of the largest of its
kind.
Taronga Zoo has about 340 species and over 2600 individual animals.

Taronga Zoo, across the harbour from Sydney's Circular Quay, has the
largest number and variety of animals and birds from many parts of the
world, including unique species of Australian wildlife, in a major

The Taronga Zoo site, based on the bar-less concept, was officially
opened in 1916.
The name Taronga is said to be an Aborigina word meaning beautiful
view.
Taronga Zoo is easily accessible by ferry.
If going by train, alight at Circular Quay and take the ferry to the
zoo.
If going by bus from Sydney city centre, take the 247 bus from Wynyard
at Carrington St.
Taronga Zoo is just over 21 hectares of beautiful waterfront land
allowing the giraffes and visitors a spectacular view of the Sydney
Harbour and Sydney's skyline. It is set in a natural foreshore

We visited Taronga Zoo during our Australian holiday in February of
this year and for me, a confirmed animal lover, it was the highlight
of my short stay in Sydney.

be Australia's premier zoo and wildlife display, with one of the
largest range of native and exotic animals in the country amounting to
over 4000 animals in total.
The Taronga Zoo ferry wharf is, for many tourists, the preferred mode

In January 1996 I visited Taronga Zoo and while I was in the queue to
get in I saw a guy I went to high school in Canada with who was
working at the zoo! I had not seen him in many years (I moved to the
UK in 1994) and I

but you will never get to see most of these in the wild.
The Chimpanzee exhibit at Taronga Zoo is one of the many open-air
enclosures that let you get up close and personal with the animals.
Taronga Zoo is well equipped for strollers and wheel chairs and has an
ample supply of food outlets. There's even a stage for jazz concerts
and symphonies during the summer months.
What's enticing about visiting the Taronga Zoo is the structure of the
place. Unlike other zoos, Taronga Zoo is atop a high area where
visitors can gaze at the animals against the backdrop of Sydney
harbour, namely, the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Taronga Zoo is the place to be, if you're looking for a
fun-filled experience and an unusual encounter with the members of the
animal kingdom.

Taronga Zoo is located next to the Parramatta river, at the opposite
site from the centre of the city. It lies on Bradleys Head road in the
suburb Mosman.
The Taronga Zoo can be reached via ferry. Your admission price allows
you to ride the gondola up to the zoo entrance. Starting at the top of
the zoo, you essentially walk down the hill and end back at the ferry
terminal.
