Sunset Zoo, also known as Sunset Zoological Park, is the city zoo of
Manhattan, Kansas, and is home to 300 species of animals.
Sunset Zoo to increase its level of commitment to animal care,
education, and conservation. Sunset Zoo applied for, and received,
accreditation by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) in
1989.

Sunset Zoo, located in Manhattan, KS, is opened 360 days a year and is
home to over 300 animal species!
General Admission
$4 per adult
$2 per child, ages 3-12
Children under 2 & FOSZ members are

Overlooking the Flint Hills, Sunset Zoo is a great place to spend the
day! This AZA-accredited zoo is open 9:30 am - 5:00 pm daily April 1 -
October 31, and noon - 5:00 pm daily November 1 - March 31.
The Sunset Zoo is located at 2333 Oak St.

Sunset Zoo What could be more thrilling than a couple of little
meerkats so close that, but for the glass, you could reach out and
touch them? What captured my fancy even more was the way they placed
their little hands up on the glass as if wanting to touch me as
Sunset Zoo Sunset Zoo had both tigers and leopards. I don't recall
seeing any lions, but that doesn't mean that they aren't there.
The tigers were in a very large enclosure at the bottom of a fairly
steep hill.
Sunset Zoo I know the petting zoo area is supposed to be for kids, but
what the heck, we're all kids at heart. One of the most interesting
animals in this part of the zoo was the pot-bellied pig.
there is a big sunset zoo arch entrance to the parking lot, if that is
you don't find the peacocks first.

at the Sunset Zoo sold for $250 in an auction held Sept. 16, according

Sunset Zoo is an AZA accredited zoo with more than 398 animals,
including chimpanzees, warthogs, Siberian tigers, snow leopards,
red pandas, and bald eagles. The popular habitat immersion
exhibits allow guests to “walk among” a variety of species.

Sunset Zoo fills its calendar with a host of kid and family-friendly
activities during summer. Specially now, with its new outdoor
Chautauqua amphitheater, built in Spring 2000, adding a special
dimension.
For the whole clan, Sunset Zoo offers special family classes in both
July and August. "Family Summer Safari" allows families to stay
overnight at the zoo, to explore the park and learn about its
nocturnal animals after hours.
Sunset Zoological Park, which has seven full-time zookeepers and two
full-time maintenance workers, has an operating budget of $778,000.
Sunset Zoological Park is Manhattan's No. 1 tourist attraction and one
of seven zoos in Kansas accredited by the Association of Zoos and
Aquariums, Shoemaker said. Less than 10 percent of U.S. zoos meet AZA
standards.
Sunset Zoo seems to offer all-weather adventure! I was there today in
the snow and it was gorgeous and the animals were active-especially
the big cats, the swans, and chimps on the hill. I can see visiting
during the week-for lunch especially-just to get away from the office.

is open - we try our best to keep information on the website up to

Manhattan's Sunset Zoological Park earned honors along with a group of
other Kansas zoos.
The Kansas Association for Conservation and Environmental Education, a
nonprofit organization, is awarding Kansas Zoo Educators the State
Conservation Education Honor Award for excellence in environmental
education.
Dianne Paukstelis, marketing/development officer of Sunset Zoo, said
the zoo participates in several outreach programs for different
schools, groups and nursing homes throughout the city. She said the
zoo offers in-service day programs as well as after-school programs
for kids.
