The Ostrava Zoo was founded in 1951. It covers an area of 100 ha and
is the home to nearly 300 different species of animals.
The story of how Ostrava Zoological Gardens came to be established is
closely linked with the activities of the Miners in the Zárubek and
Alexander mines during the construction of what was known as the
Mining Complex of Ostrava - Kuncicky.
So it was that on this day Ostrava Zoological Gardens were
established.

Two years later (22.5.1953) the 179th regular meeting of the JNV
council defined the Zoo as a self-financing culturally educational
facility of the JNV, and B.
Ostrava Zoo offers special components for blind visitors, in this case
an information board in Braille and owl footprints.
UP MANAGEMENT:
The animals calmed down quickly after their moving into the new
aviaries. The Snowy owls have been observed actively flying.
The Ostrava Zoo takes part in conservation of rare owl species. We
have participated intensively in the breeding of Barn owls and Little
owls since 1995. Until 2004, we have managed to rear more than 200
owls of various species.
Ostrava Zoo offers recreation and education of a family
multigeneration type and it is a natural turistic centre exceeding
with its importance the boundaries of the region.Most of its area
includes undisturbed deciduous forest.

where lies today. Ostrava Zoo can be found in the park Stromovka in
Silesian Ostrava.
