The Oregon Zoo was founded in 1887, making it the oldest North
American zoo west of the Mississippi. It began with the donation of an
animal attraction that outgrew its place in a vacant lot beside a
pharmacy in downtown Portland.
The Oregon Zoo, formerly the Washington Park Zoo, is a zoo two
miles (3 km) west southwest of downtown Portland, Oregon in Portland's
Washington Park. It is Oregon's largest paid attraction, with more
than 1.4 million visitors yearly.
Founded in 1887, the Oregon Zoo is the oldest zoological park west of
the Mississippi. About 200 species of birds, mammals, reptiles,
amphibians and invertebrates make their home here.

My favorite exhibit at the Oregon Zoo? Lorikeet Landing, where for

The Oregon Zoo Foundation's primary purpose is to encourage and aid
the development of the Oregon Zoo in Portland, Oregon. Founded in
1887, the Oregon Zoo is home to animals from all corners of the world,
including Asian elephants, Peruvian penguins and Arctic polar bears.
The Oregon Zoo is a must see! Take the train over to Washington Park
and walk around too! While there, visit the Rose Garden Store and get
some Portland memorabelia too!

Overview
The Oregon Zoo holds three female Asian elephants and three Asian
bulls, one bull in particular—Tusko—arrived at the zoo in August 2005.
In 2000, the Oregon Zoo was charged by USDA for violating the Animal
Welfare Act in the abuse of Rose-Tu with an ankus, but these serious
charges do not appear to have had an impact on Portland keepers, as
Pet’s records show ankus abuse continuing.
Among it's many famous facets, Oregon Zoo is home to the first
elephant ever born in the Western Hemisphere (“Packy” entered the
world in 1962), and has since become the world's most successful
elephant breeding program in the world, including 29 elephants in
total.
Founded in 1887, Oregon Zoo is one of the state's most visited
attractions, with over 1.4 million visitors a year.

The Oregon Zoo is one of the better zoos I've been to. Not as amazing
as the London or San Diego Zoos, but still provides great education
about the animals, conservation efforts and quite a wide variety.
The Oregon Zoo makes a huge attempt to imitate the habitat of the

great. The fake thunderstorms are an extra good touch.
