Mysore established in 1892 has got international recognition for its
unique achievements in breeding the largest mammals of South Asia and
other species
The famous Mysore Zoo has lost a valuable species. A female African
rhinoceros died in the Zoo on August 13. It was 32. With its death,
the zoo is left with only a male rhino without a partner.
It has been a bad season of animal deaths for Mysore Zoo, known for
breeding rare species. On June 1, tigress Bhadri was killed, in a
similar way, when it was attacked by another tiger.
The Mysore Zoo is also the only zoo in South Asia to host a gorilla.
He seemed quite glum and pensive.
The Mysore Zoo adheres to this principle of making the habitats
aesthetically pleasing and more attuned to the animals' needs than
merely cages with the stench of unhappiness. Visitors, too, seem
respectful of their surroundings.
Interestingly, the Mysore Zoo is an
autonomous body, not receiving any funds from the government. There
were some incidents of animals dying mysteriously in 2004, including a
couple of elephants, a macaque, an emu, and a tiger, allegedly due to
poisoning.

They said the Mysore zoo would exchange 10 spot-billed pelicans for
two pairs of ring-tailed lemurs, a pair of red-necked wallabys, two
pairs of military macaws, a pair of female lesser rheas and a pair of
capuchin monkeys with Zoo Zlin.

I'm not going to enter an opinion as to wether Mysore Zoo is a good
Zoo from an animal rights point of view as I do not know but I do
suspect that the enclosures would not be the biggest in the world.
However I saw no evidence of any maltreatment of any kind.
