Děčín Zoo, Děčín, Czech Republic
List of facts we found about Děčín Zoo
2008 began in Děčín Zoo with the construction of new fencing around
the whole complex. The existing fencing was in an emergency condition,
with the worst situation above the Grizzly bear enclosure. Replacement
of the fencing was necessary for security reasons.
On 14th February, Děčín Zoo joined the international campaign that is
annually declared by the European Association of Zoological Gardens
and Aquariums (EAZA). This year it was devoted to saving amphibians
directly threatened with extinction over the whole planet.
Děčín Zoo lost its Persian Leopard, called Bilbi, at the beginning of
March. He died at 22 years of age. He had not been eating food for
nearly a week and we did not like his state of health, so we called in
the vet to see him.
* Děčín Zoo – a zoological garden at the summit of Pastýřská Stěna
(Shepherd’s Wall). Apart from animals, the zoo features wooden
animal sculptures, playgrounds for children, monkey trails, and a
life-size model of the Sorry! board game, Children’s Zoo.
At Děčín Zoo, you can find a bear path, a survival game, and guided
tours all year round. Younger visitors will certainly appreciate the
children’s corner with a wooden castle, a sweet shop, and a snack bar.
The Děčín zoo is also located
near the lookout. Following the red trail, you will move on to the
most significant mesa in our country, Vysoký (Děčínský) Sněžník, whose
top houses a 30-meter tall lookout tower that was built in 1864.
