The Brookfield Zoo is a zoo located in the Chicago suburb of
Brookfield, Illinois. The zoo covers an area of 216 acres (874,124 m²)
and houses around 450 species of animals.
In 1960, Brookfield Zoo built the
nation's first fully-indoor dolphin exhibit, and in the 1980s the zoo
introduced Tropic World, the first fully-indoor rain forest simulation
and the then-largest indoor zoo exhibit in the world.

The brookfield zoo has more room, more animals, bigger exhibits than
LP Zoo.
But what it doesn't have is charm and a lack of any sort of admission.
So there is almost no reason to go here unless you live next door.
Brookfield zoo sits on over 215 acres of land, LP sits on what,
*maybe* an acre or two? BZ has about 30 exhibits that house hundreds
of different animals. LP, a fraction of that.
Ok, enough of the obvious stats, the Brookfield zoo itself is pretty
nice, well maintained and clean, and now that we're in the autumn
season, it is incredibly beautiful (pics in profile).

The Brookfield Zoo is truly a world class zoo. With every animal in
the world, you will see all of your favorites plus a lot more. It is
relatively clean and safe, parking is ample, and there is a LOT to do
here.
Brookfield Zoo is a great way to enjoy a beautiful sunny day. Children
and adults of all ages will enjoy the nice atmosphere and many animals
that are out on exhibit.
Brookfield Zoo inspires conservation leaders every day by connecting
people with wildlife and nature.

June 30, 2009 - Since opening its gates to the public on July 1,
1934, the Chicago Zoological Society's Brookfield Zoo has been a

D. Strahl, Ph.D., president and CEO of Chicago Zoological Society.
Brookfield Zoo also exhibited the first giant pandas in
North America and was the first zoo in the country to have black rhino
(1941) and okapi (1959) births. Brookfield Zoo was the site of one of
the country's first zoo animal hospitals in 1952.
Brookfield Zoo, opened in 1934, is known for its extensive use of
open-air, unbarred enclosures. It is owned by the Forest Preserve
District of Cook County and is operated by the Chicago Zoological
Society. Brookfield Zoo receives some 2 million visitors annually.

Brookfield Zoo is a very educational zoo. There are docents everywhere
ready to tell you about the animals. There are schedules posted daily
for zoo chats, where the keepers tell you about the animals.
Brookfield Zoo is very user friendly. There are many snack shops,
picnic groves and vendor carts to purchase food. On the downside, the
concessions can be quite expensive.
