For more than 75 years, Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo has been home to
more than 300 animals representing primarily North and South American
species. As Connecticut's only zoo, it is a wonderful place for

Beardsley Zoo’s funding is in jeopardy. Beardsley Zoo relies on both
the State of Connecticut and the City of Bridgeport for nearly one
third of their funding.
Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is Connecticut’s ONLY Zoo! It also has one
of the last operational carousels in the Northeast. It’s an
educational, informative and fun family time, located in historic
Beardsley Park in Bridgeport.

Started in 1922, Beardsley Zoo is Connecticut's only accredited zoo
and makes for a great day trip for area residents.

This is great news, as I had heard the Beardsley Zoo was really
struggling. Hopefully this means that Connecticut's only zoo is making
a comeback. I've been to this little zoo and really enjoyed it.

Beardsley Zoo marks Year of the Frog

With 50 percent of the 6,000 amphibian species threatened with
extinction, conservation groups across the globe have rallied to raise
awareness of the crisis and named 2008 as the Year of the
Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, the Ansonia Nature Center
and Kellogg Environmental Center in Derby will join forces with other
members of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to mark the
occasion with special events and conservation efforts.
The Beardsley Zoo is proud to be a part of the AZA’s nationwide Year
of the Frog event, according to Zoo Director Gregg Dancho.
“As a child I was able to visit many ponds and wetland areas around my
house in Stratford,” Dancho said.
