The Alaska Zoo is a zoo in Anchorage, Alaska located on 25 acres (62
ha) of the Anchorage Hillside. It is a popular attraction in Alaska,
with nearly 200,000 visitors per year.
The zoo's name was changed to Alaska Zoo in June 1980.
In 1983, a female African elephant named Maggie arrived at the Alaska
Zoo as a companion for Annabelle.

her herd had been culled — selectively destroyed to reduce numbers —

Marnie Brennan mentions that new flooring should be purchased by
outside groups criticizing the zoo for the concrete floor that Maggie
stands on, which is potentially harming her.
Maggie? If the Alaska Zoo is going to say it is best to keep Maggie
here, then we need to be responsible to Maggie by trying to improve
her conditions through local support.
Maggie at the Alaska Zoo desperately needs to be relocated to the
Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. To keep a highly social and
intelligent animal in solitary confinement is cruel and inhumane.
The zoo states it has spent $1.
The Alaska Zoo has announced that it will send Maggie, a 27-year-old
African elephant, to the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS)
sanctuary in California.
